Fillings/Onlays
Fillings, Porcelain Inlays & Onlays
In the United States, approximately 92% of people between the ages of 20 and 34 have at least one cavity according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2004. Many options are available to treat cavities, there are two types of fillings: Direct and Indirect.
Direct Fillings:
As WebMD simply puts it, “To treat a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed.” Dentists also use fillings to put together teeth that have cracked, are broken, or are eroded from nail-biting and tooth-grinding. Nowadays, there are several types of dental fillings to choose from: gold, porcelain, silver amalgam (a mix of silver, other metals, and Mercury), white, plastic, and glass.
But, here, at T Dental, we prefer white fillings—or “composite fillings.” This type of filling is more popular, takes the color of your teeth (unlike silver amalgam), and it does not have Mercury in it.
Indirect Fillings:
Inlays and Onlays can be made out of porcelain, porcelain substrate, Zirconia, or gold. They follow the curvature of the anatomy of your tooth with all the grooves and cusps.
Being made in the lab they are more sturdy than conventional fillings and can prevent the tooth from fracturing or developing another cavity.
ROOT CANALS
Endodontics / Root Canals save teeth
This procedure can save teeth that are infected, or decomposing in the mouth. They can either be done by a General Dentist or an Endodontist (a dental specialist who specializes in Root Canals). The actual root canal process itself is quite simple. The inside of the tooth (the decaying nerve and pulp) is removed, cleaned, and capped to avoid further infection.Although this dental treatment is infamous for “excruciating pain,” after visiting our office you will find out that this is only a myth. You will be able to drive home after your dental treatment and return to your normal routine.
COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Did you know that smiling and laughing releases chemicals called endorphins that are responsible for making us feel happy and lower stress levels? Putting on a beautiful smile can lead to increased self-confidence and improve social and professional skills.
Our doctors at Alternative Dental strongly believe in achieving and maintaining your oral health, as well as paying close attention to aesthetics. The process for creating a beautiful smile begins with a comprehensive consultation and necessary digital x-rays to evaluate for any underlying dental disease. Once your oral health is established, the following restorative procedures, alone or in combination, can be used to achieve a beautiful and healthy smile.

Veneers and Lumineers
-
Veneers (also known as Porcelain Veneers, or Dental Porcelain Laminates) are paper-thin, customized casings that are bonded to the fronts of your teeth. They change the appearance of your smile.
-
Whether you want to superficially change the color of your teeth, their shape, size, or dimensions, veneers can help. They hide discoloration, eroded teeth, teeth that have been broken or chipped, misaligned, or gapped.
-
Lumineers are veneers, but thinner. They are the preferred brand in the industry, known to be long-lasting.
-
Some of the main advantages of dental veneers include:
-
Dental Veneers can make darker teeth look lighter due to dental veneer color selection process
-
Dental Veneers tend to look more like natural teeth
-
Dental Veneers are stain resistant
-
Dental Veneers don’t require extensive shaping compared to a crown procedure

-
Bonding – repair chipped or cracked teeth, close gaps, change shape of teeth

CROWNS & BRIDGES
A dental crown or “cap” covers the entire tooth from the gum line to the top of the tooth. Crowns can be used for cosmetic purposes (to cover stained or out-of-shape teeth, or cover implants) or be placed on weak and cracked teeth to prevent the tooth from breaking. Another reason a crown may be used to hold up teeth with large fillings or restore a root canal treated tooth.
Crowns are made from different materials to meet your preferences. Crown materials range from mixed metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), Zirconia and all-ceramic.
At T Dental, we give our patients crowns made out of Zirconia. Digitally designed, Zirconia crowns are built to last. They camouflage among teeth, are more durable than traditional crowns, and are shatterproof.
Normally, a dental crown takes two appointments. During the first appointment, your doctor will prepare the tooth, make a temporary crown that closely matches to the shade, and send the impression of the tooth to the laboratory to make a custom crown. At the next appointment your crown will be fitted and cemented.
DENTURES
There are two types of dentures:
-
Complete Dentures
-
Partial Dentures
In general, dentures help fix smiles, chewing, and biting. Complete Dentures are used when all the teeth are completely missing. This type of denture can be “conventional,” or “immediate.” Conventional Dentures are placed in the mouth once all the teeth are gone, and the gum tissue starts healing. This usually takes up to 8 to 12 weeks. Immediate Dentures (made beforehand) are placed in the mouth immediately after all the teeth are taken out. While the patient can have teeth during the healing process, Immediate Dentures need to be fine-tuned more (especially because the mouth re-shapes as it heals). Therefore, Immediate Dentures are usually seen as a stand-in, until the Complete Dentures are ready. Partial Dentures are used when parts, or sections, of the mouth are missing teeth. A detachable Partial Denture (or Dental Bridge) is normally made up of substitute teeth, and a plastic base that fills the gap of missing teeth.

IMPLANTS
Dental implant therapy has improved exponentially in the last decade. Dental implants provide a long-term solution to fixing your smile with a strong foundation. Implant placement became minimally invasive and can improve physical health, esthetics and chewing efficiency.
Surgically placed implants can replace missing teeth in a variety of ways including:
Replace Single Tooth
Replacing one missing tooth is the most cost effective treatment, even if the initial cost may be slightly higher. Placing an implant refrains you from using adjacent natural teeth as bridge support which can weaken and make the teeth more susceptible to decay. The crown that is placed on top of the implant is a strong, esthetic Zirconia restoration that will look and feel like your natural tooth.
Replace Multiple teeth
Fixed-implant bridges-Is one option to replace multiple missing teeth. If you are missing multiple teeth in a row, you can place multiple implants that will spread the pressure across the bridge.
Replace All teeth
“All on 4 Implants” – Traditional dentures can accelerate bone loss because of the pressure put on the gums and surface of the bone. They can also be uncomfortable, affect speech and taste, and be a nuisance due to time-consuming maintenance. Today, dentists can place four implants into the bone and attach a denture to the implants, one of the many options include: screw-retained, snap, bar-attachment. A fixed implant denture transfers the pressure into the bone structure rather than the bone surface minimizing bone loss, and prevents the denture from slipping while eating and talking
